Corinth
Canal completed in the 19th century and linking the Corinthian
and the Saronic Gulf. The canal is over 6000 meters in length.
It has a width of around 25 meters and in some places its sides
are nearly 80 meters high. Ancient Corinth, the archaeological
site is not far from the town. Among the features are the ruins
of the Roman forum, a row of small Roman temples, a superb Doric
temple , the temple of Hera Acraea and the Glauce Fountain, numerous
shops and arcades basilicas dating from Roman times. At the site,
there is a museum with exhibits, which reflect the long and glorious

MYCENAE

name of Mycenae is linked with the most important cycle of Greek
myths. Mycenae in ancient times, was the center of the Greek world.
Today, Mycenae is one of the most visited archaeological sights
in Greece. Extensive ruins have survived of the imposing acropolis,
the tomb of Agamemnon and the Lion Gate and more making a visit
to Mycenae worthwhile and a unique experience. |

EPIDAVROS |

At
t he archaeological site of Epidavros or Epidaurus, one can visit
the sanctuary of Asklepios, which grew to become the most important
medical center of the ancient world. Of course, the most important
monument of all is the world famous amphitheater, which is still
used for performances during the summer months. Epidavros amphitheater
is renowned for its its unique acoustics. Some of the finds from
the Epidavros archaeological site can be seen in the museum inside
the archaeological site, and the rest in the museum in Athens. |
